TaeKwon-Do is a version of unarmed combat designed for self-defense, and more. It is the scientific and ultimate use of the body gained through intensive physical and mental training.

Meaning: is the pen name of the noted scholar Yi Hwang (16th century A.D.), an authority on Neo-Confucianism.  The 37 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on the 37th degree latitude and the diagram represents "scholar".

Ready Posture: Closed Ready Stance B Pattern Dan Gun

 

1. Move the left foot to B forming a right L-stance while executing a left middle inner forearm side block to B

2. Move the left foot 1/2 way back and then forward forming a left walking stance while executing a right low upset fingertip thrust to B.

3. Bring the left foot to the right one forming a closed ready stance to D while executing a right high side backfist strike to C and extending the left outer forearm downward and slightly to the side.

4. Move the right foot to A forming a left L-stance while executing a right middle inner forearm side block to A.

5. Move the right foot 1/2 way back and then forward forming a right walking stance while executing a left low upset fingertip thrust to A.

6. Bring the right foot to the left one forming a closed ready stance to D while executing a left high side backfist strike to C and extending the right outer forearm downward and slightly to the side.

7. Move the left foot to D forming a left walking stance toward D while executing a low pressing block with an x-fist

8. Execute a high twin vertical punch to D maintaining the same stance.

9. Execute a right middle front snap kick to D, keeping the position of the hands as they were in #8.

10. Lower the foot to D forming a right walking stance and executing a right middle punch to D.

11. Execute a left middle reverse punch to D while maintaining the same stance.

12. Bring the left foot to the right foot and turn counter-clockwise to F forming a closed stance to F while bringing both fists to the hips simultaneously. Perform this movement in a slow motion.

13. Move the right foot to F in a stamping motion, turning counter=clockwise, forming a sitting stance toward C while executing a W-shaped block to C wiht the right outer forearm.

14. Move the left foot to F in a stamping motion, turning clockwise, forming a sitting stance toward D while executing a W-shaped block to D with the left outer forearm.

15. Move the left foot to E in a stamping motion, turning counter=clockwise, forming a sitting stance toward D while executing a W-shaped block to D with the right outer forearm.

16. Move the right foot to E in a stamping motion, turning counter-clockwise, forming a sitting stance toward D while executing a W-shaped block to D with the right outer forearm.

17. Move the left foot to E in a stamping motion, turning clockwise, forming a sitting stance toward C while executing a W-shaped block to C with the left outer forearm.

18. Move the left foot to F in a stamping motion, turning clockwise, forming a sitting stance toward D while executing a W-shaped block to D with the left outer forearm.

19. Bring the right foot to the left foot and then move the left foot to D, forming a right L-stance toward D while executing a double forearm low pushing block to D.

20. Bring the left foot 1/2 way back to the right and then slide it back to D forming a left walking stance while extending both hands upward as if to grab the opponent's shoulders.

21. Execute an upward strike with the right knee to the opponent's chest while pulling both hands downward.

22. Lower the right foot beside the left one and then turn counter-clockwise moving the left foot to C forming a right L-stance toward C while executing a middle knifehand guarding block to C.

24. Lower the left foot to C forming a left walking stance toward C while executing a left high flat fingertip thrust to C.

25. Step forward forming a left L-stance to C while executing a middle knifehand guarding block to C

26. Execute a right low side front snap kick to C keeping the position of the hands as they were in #25

27. Lower the right foot to C forming a right walking stance toward C while executing a right high flat fingertip thrust to C.

28. Move the right foot back to D forming a right L-stance toward C while executing a high backfist strike to D and a left low outer forearm block.

29. Jump to C (about a walking stance length) forming a right X-stance toward A while executing a low X-fist pressing block to A.

30. Move the right foot clockwise to C forming a right walking stance toward C while executing a right double inner foorearm block to C.

31. Move the left foot to B turning counter=clockwise forming a right L-stance while executing a low knifehand guarding block to B.

32. Move the left foot 1/2 way back to the right one and thens slide it forward to a left walking stance toward B while executing a circular block to B with the right inner forearm.

33. Bring the left foot beside the right foot and then move the right foot to A turning clockwise forming a left L-stance while executing a low knifehand guarding block to A.

34. Move the right foot 1/2 way back to the left one and then slide it forward to a right walking stance toward A while executing a circular block to A wiht the left inner forearm.

35. Pivot counter-clockwise on the balls of the feet to line CE forming a left walking stance to CE while executing a right cirular block to CE with the inner forearm.

36. Pivot clockwise on the balls of the feet to A forming a right walking stance to A while executing a left circular block to A with the inner forearm.

37. Move the right foot to line AB to form a sitting stance toward D while executing a right middle punch to D.

END: Return to a closed ready stance B by moving the right foot in.
